Tracking Investments
Agni Folio tracks six asset types. Each has its own form fields, but they all share two ideas:
- Entries are positions you own (e.g. 100 shares of AAPL, a flat in Bangalore, an FD at HDFC).
- Transactions are events on those positions (buy, sell, dividend received, loan repayment).
For traded assets, Agni Folio fetches live prices and recalculates returns automatically. For untraded assets, you update the price manually when you want.
Asset types
Section titled “Asset types”For listed equities across every major exchange:
- Start typing a ticker in the search box — Yahoo Finance autocompletes globally:
AAPL(NASDAQ),TSLA(NASDAQ),BP.L(LSE),SAP.DE(Xetra),7203.T(Tokyo),RELIANCE.NS(NSE India),HSBC.HK(Hong Kong), and more - Enter quantity and your average cost basis
- Live price is pulled automatically; gain/loss recalculates on every page load
- Holdings in non-base currencies auto-convert using real-time FX rates
Buy more later? Add a BUY transaction — Agni Folio recalculates your weighted-average cost basis (your “DCA” price). Sell partial? Add a SELL transaction — realised gains are tracked separately from your unrealised holdings.
Dividends are tracked as a separate transaction type and contribute to your total return metric.
For physical property:
- Enter property name, location, purchase price, and current valuation
- Update valuation manually whenever you have a fresh appraisal
- Add ongoing costs (maintenance, taxes) as expense transactions
For bank FDs and corporate bonds:
- Enter principal, interest rate, start date, maturity date, and compounding frequency
- Agni Folio auto-calculates the maturity value and accrued interest as of today
- Mark as “auto-renew” if your bank rolls it over
For cryptocurrencies and tokens:
- Pick from CoinGecko’s catalog (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.) or add a custom token
- Enter quantity held and average cost
- Live price updates from CoinGecko; multi-currency conversion built in
Connect a crypto exchange under Crypto Exchanges to import balances automatically (read-only API keys only — never trade-execution keys).
For mutual funds, ETFs, and index funds globally:
- Search by fund name, ticker, or scheme code (AMFI for India, ISIN for Europe, ticker for US)
- Enter units held and average NAV at purchase
- Daily NAV is pulled automatically; XIRR is calculated across all your transactions in the fund
- Works for actively-managed funds, passive index funds, and ETFs across all major markets
For liabilities (home loan, education loan, personal loan):
- Enter principal, interest rate, tenure, and EMI amount
- Record EMI payments as PAYMENT transactions — outstanding principal decreases automatically
- Loans count as negative net worth so your dashboard shows the real picture
Editing entries
Section titled “Editing entries”Every entry has an edit screen (the pencil icon on the holdings table). Update price, quantity, cost basis, or any other field — Agni Folio recalculates derived values like average cost basis, unrealized gain/loss, and display return automatically on save.
Transactions
Section titled “Transactions”Open any entry’s detail page to see its transaction history. Transactions are the source of truth for cost basis and realized gains — adding, editing, or deleting a transaction triggers a full recalculation of the entry’s metrics.
