Move money and see where it went
Move money records money leaving one of your holdings and arriving in another as one linked step: the withdrawal from one side and the deposit (or purchase) on the other are saved together. Linked steps build a trail, so you can later see where the money went.
What it’s for
Section titled “What it’s for”Say you had a fixed deposit of 200 crore in March. Today it is 125 crore. Where did the other 75 crore go?
Perhaps 75 crore went to a second bank account, and from there into a mutual fund and a few other investments. If you record each of those steps with Move money, the FD’s page shows the whole path: FD to the bank account, then the bank account to the fund and the rest, each step with its date and amount.
The example uses crore, but Move money works in any currency and between any of your holdings: bank accounts, deposits, funds, stocks, property, loans and credit cards.
Linking is how a move shows up on the trail. A plain withdrawal or deposit added with Add Transaction, or from an import, stays exactly as it is: not linked, and not on any trail. Many withdrawals have nowhere to go in your portfolio (money spent or given away), so linking is always your choice.
Record a move
Section titled “Record a move”- On Holdings, click the holding the money left (the FD in our example) to open its page.
- Click Move money, next to Add Transaction. The dialog is titled Move money from and the holding’s name.
- In Moved to, search for the holding the money arrived in, by name or account. Holdings are grouped by account, so money moved to a holding in another account, for example in a family member’s name, works too.
- In Amount moved, type the amount that left, in the source holding’s currency.
- In Date, pick the day the money moved. Back-dating is fine: use the date on your statement.
- Fill in any extra field the dialog shows:
- Units bought, when the money went into a fund or stock held in units. Take it from your statement.
- Units sold from (the source’s name), when the money came out of a fund or stock held in units.
- Amount that arrived, when the two holdings are in different currencies. Type what reached the other holding, from your statement. Agni Folio never converts this amount for you.
- Click Preview. It shows each holding’s value before and after the move, the units, and the date. When the two holdings are in different accounts, it says so.
- Click Confirm move. Both sides are saved together. Nothing is saved until you confirm.
Change any field after a preview and the preview clears. Click Preview again before you confirm.
What each side becomes
Section titled “What each side becomes”Each side of a move is saved as an ordinary transaction on that holding. Which kind depends on the holding:
| Holding | Money leaves it | Money arrives in it |
|---|---|---|
| Bank account, fixed deposit, property, or anything else tracked as a value | Withdrawal | Deposit |
| Fund, stock or other holding tracked in units | Sell, with the units sold | Buy, with the units bought |
| Loan or credit card | Borrowing: the amount owed goes up | Repayment: the amount owed goes down |
A fund or stock that you track as a value, without a unit count, counts as a value here: money in and out of it is a deposit or a withdrawal.
For a fund or stock, the preview also shows the price per unit your amount and units imply. If that differs from today’s price, it says by how much, and whether the difference counts as a gain or a loss.
Build a chain
Section titled “Build a chain”A trail is made of moves recorded one step at a time. For the FD example:
- Open the FD and move 75 crore to the second bank account, dated the day it left the FD.
- Open the second bank account and move money to the mutual fund, dated the day you bought the fund. Enter the Units bought from the fund statement.
- Repeat from the second bank account for each other investment, each dated on the real day.
Each step goes on the page of the holding the money left. The trail joins them up: money that arrived in the bank account on one day, and left it on that day or later, is followed onward.
See where the money went
Section titled “See where the money went”Open the FD’s page. Below the transaction history, a panel titled Where the money went shows:
- A flow chart. Each band is one move, as wide as the amount moved, in your display currency. Hover over a band, or tap it on a phone, to see the move, its amount and its date.
- Current value. What each holding on the trail is worth today.
- A dated list of every step, for example Jun 10, 2026: 75 crore from FD → Bank 2. A step from the bank account onward is indented under the step that brought the money there. When the two holdings are in different currencies, the line also says what the amount arrived as.
The panel only appears on a holding that has had money moved out of it.
In the transaction history
Section titled “In the transaction history”Both sides of a move appear in each holding’s transaction history with a tag:
- Moved to and the other holding’s name, on the side the money left.
- Moved from and the other holding’s name, on the side it arrived in.
To remove a move, click the undo icon (Undo move — removes both sides) on either side, then confirm Undo move. The withdrawal and the deposit are both removed, and both holdings go back to what they were. You can’t delete just one side: Agni Folio asks you to undo the move instead.
If the money has since moved on, for example from the bank account into the fund, undo the later move first. Agni Folio names the move to undo. Only the notes on a move can be edited; to change an amount or a date, undo the move and record it again.
Already entered a plain withdrawal?
Section titled “Already entered a plain withdrawal?”A withdrawal you added earlier with Add Transaction, or that came in from an import, is not linked, so it won’t appear on the trail. Agni Folio never links old transactions for you.
To put it on the trail, delete the plain withdrawal (and the matching plain deposit on the other holding, if you added one), then record the step with Move money. Delete first, so the amount isn’t taken out of the FD twice.
Rules and messages
Section titled “Rules and messages”- Not more than the holding has. The amount moved can’t be more than the holding’s value today. The message says how much it holds, and offers a Use button that fills in the most you can move.
- Interest stays until it is paid out. A withdrawal from a deposit, or any holding tracked as a value, can take what was put in, not the interest that has built up on top. If you try, the message says how much you can move now and how much interest can’t be moved yet.
- Units. A sale can’t be more units than the holding had on that date. Units must be above 0, with at most 8 decimal places. Amounts can have at most 2 decimal places.
- Loans and cards. A repayment can’t be larger than what is outstanding.
- Dates. The date can’t be in the future, or before a holding’s first transaction. If a value was set on a holding after your date, the message asks you to date the move on or after that day.
- Currencies. When both holdings are in the same currency, the amount that arrives is the amount moved. When they differ, Amount that arrived is required.
- Holdings that can’t use Move money. Insurance policies can’t send or receive moves. Neither can a holding whose value is kept in step by an exchange or wallet sync. The Move money button doesn’t appear on those holdings, and they are not offered in Moved to.
What the trail shows, and what it doesn’t
Section titled “What the trail shows, and what it doesn’t”- The trail runs forward from the holding the money left. Open the FD to see where its money went. On a holding the money arrived in, you see only the Moved from tag on that transaction, not a trail back to where the money came from.
- Each trail is on one holding’s page. There is no single page with every trail in your portfolio. Open the holding you want to trace from.
- Long trails are shortened. A trail follows up to 5 steps onward and up to 200 moves. When there is more, the panel says Showing the first moves only.
Ask Astra or your own AI
Section titled “Ask Astra or your own AI”Astra, and your own AI assistant connected over MCP, can record moves, undo them and trace them, with the same rules as the app. Try:
- “I moved 75 crore from my FD to my second bank account on 10 June.”
- “From that bank account I bought 1,20,000 units of my mutual fund for 30 crore on 15 June.”
- “Where did the money from my FD go?”
- “Undo the move from my FD to my second bank account.”
Astra links the two sides only when both are your holdings and you say money moved between them. If you mention only one side, it adds a plain transaction.
