Family structure
Family structure lets you record the people and entities in your financial life, and who owns what. Agni Folio then shows you what each person or entity is worth, and what the household is worth as a whole, without counting anything twice.
People and entities
Section titled “People and entities”Add the people whose money you track:
- your spouse or partner;
- your children;
- your parents.
And the entities that own money, for example:
- a company;
- a trust;
- a Hindu Undivided Family (HUF), for Indian families.
Which entity types you can pick depends on your country.
Ownership shares
Section titled “Ownership shares”For each holding, say who owns what share. A joint bank account held with your partner might be 50/50. A property might be 60/40. A family company might be owned by two siblings.
Agni Folio then splits each holding’s value by those shares when it adds things up.
Totals per person, per entity, or for the household
Section titled “Totals per person, per entity, or for the household”Once shares are recorded, you can see totals:
- per person: what your partner owns, including their share of joint holdings;
- per entity: what the family company or trust holds;
- for the whole household: everything, with each holding counted once, never twice. A joint account shows up in each owner’s total at their share, but only once in the household total.
The Family menu and the ownership map
Section titled “The Family menu and the ownership map”Open Family from the main menu (/family) to add and edit people and entities.
The ownership map (/family/map) shows the whole picture in one view: who owns which entities, and which holdings sit under each.
How it fits with accounts
Section titled “How it fits with accounts”Accounts still work as before: each holding sits in one account, and tax reports still follow accounts. Family structure adds a layer on top, so a holding owned by two people can be split between them by share, instead of sitting with only one owner.
Share part of your family with an advisor
Section titled “Share part of your family with an advisor”With family structure on, you can give an advisor or accountant access to only part of your family, for example only the family company. The advisor then sees only the holdings inside that part. If you also allow changes, they can change only those holdings. With access to only part of your family, the advisor can’t download anything.
Ask Astra about your family
Section titled “Ask Astra about your family”Astra can read your family structure and answer questions such as “What does my partner own?” or “What is the family company worth?”, using each owner’s share.
What’s next
Section titled “What’s next”- Share with your advisor or accountant: give a professional view-only access, to all or part of your family
- Accounts: how holdings are grouped
- Crew & Family Sharing: share progress with family members who have their own logins
