SIP, STP and SWP
If you invest in a mutual fund on a schedule, you don’t need to add each instalment by hand. Set up the plan once and Agni Folio records every instalment for you at the fund’s official NAV (the price the fund publishes each day).
| Plan | What it does | Recorded as |
|---|---|---|
| SIP — Systematic Investment Plan | Puts a fixed amount into a fund regularly | A BUY each time |
| STP — Systematic Transfer Plan | Moves a fixed amount from one fund to another regularly | A linked SELL + BUY (a switch) each time |
| SWP — Systematic Withdrawal Plan | Takes a fixed amount out of a fund regularly | A SELL each time |
Setting up a plan
Section titled “Setting up a plan”- Open the fund’s detail page from your portfolio.
- Next to Add Transaction, click Set up SIP, Set up STP or Set up SWP.
- Fill in the form:
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Into (STP only) | The fund to move money into. It must be another mutual fund you hold, in the same currency |
| Amount each time | The amount per instalment |
| How often | Monthly, Weekly, Every 2 weeks, or Every 3 months |
| Day of the week / Day of the month | When each instalment falls. If you pick a day after the 28th, shorter months use their last day |
| First instalment on or after | The start date |
| Keep going | Until I stop it, For a number of instalments, or Until a date |
- Check the summary line — for example “Adds ₹5,000 to Fund on the 5th of every month” and the next date — then click Start SIP, Start STP or Start SWP.
Plans that started in the past
Section titled “Plans that started in the past”If your start date is before today, the form asks what to do with the instalments that already fell due:
- Add the past instalments — records each one at the fund’s price on its own date. Pick this if you haven’t entered them yet.
- They’re already recorded — skips them. Pick this if you already added them, for example through an import.
How instalments get recorded
Section titled “How instalments get recorded”Every night at 11:30 pm India time, Agni Folio brings each running plan up to date.
- Price used — the fund’s official NAV for the instalment date. On weekends and holidays, the next published NAV is used, and the transaction is dated that day.
- NAV not out yet — the plan shows Waiting for the fund price and catches up once the price is published.
- No NAV for 30 days — the plan pauses itself, since the fund may have merged or closed.
- Not enough units (STP and SWP) — that date is marked Skipped — not enough units and nothing is sold. An SWP finishes once the fund has no units left.
You get one notification per run, such as “3 SIP instalments added”.
Managing a plan
Section titled “Managing a plan”All your plans appear under Ongoing plans — on the fund’s detail page and on your main portfolio view. Each plan card has these actions:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Add due instalments now | Records anything due without waiting for tonight’s run (Record due withdrawals now for an SWP) |
| Pause / Resume | Stops and restarts instalments |
| Change amount | Changes future instalments only; past ones keep their amount |
| Stop | Ends the plan for good. A stopped plan can’t be restarted — set up a new one instead |
| Delete | Removes the plan. You can choose to keep its past instalments as normal transactions |
| Instalments | Lists every instalment. You can undo any single one, and an undone instalment is never added back |
A plan’s status is one of: Running, Waiting for the fund price, Paused, Stopped or Finished.
Using Astra or your own AI
Section titled “Using Astra or your own AI”You can also ask Astra, or an AI assistant connected through MCP, to “start a ₹10,000 monthly SIP in my Parag Parikh fund on the 5th”, or to pause, stop or change a plan. As with any change Astra makes, you confirm it before it’s saved.
What’s next
