Short answer: download your Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) from CAMS, KFintech or MF Central, open AI Import in Agni Folio, drop in the PDF, type its password when asked, check the folios it found, and click Confirm & Import. Every folio becomes its own holding, matched by ISIN and folio number, and next month's CAS updates the same holdings instead of adding copies.
If you invest in Indian mutual funds, the registrar CAS is the standard way to bring your whole mutual fund history into a tracker. It covers every fund house, every folio and every transaction under your PAN, whether you invested through a bank, a broker, an app or directly with the AMC. This guide walks through the whole process and explains what Agni Folio does with each row.
What is a CAS?
A CAS (Consolidated Account Statement) is a single statement of all your mutual fund investments across fund houses. India's two mutual fund registrars, CAMS and KFintech, keep the records for almost every AMC, and either of them can send you a statement that covers both.
For each folio, a CAS shows:
- The scheme name and its ISIN (a 12-character code starting with
INF) - The folio number
- Units held, cost and current value
- In a detailed CAS, every transaction: SIP instalments, lump sums, redemptions, switches and dividends
There is also a depository CAS from NSDL or CDSL, which covers what you hold in a demat account (shares, and mutual fund units held in demat form). This guide focuses on the registrar CAS from CAMS and KFintech.
Step 1: Download your CAS
A CAS is free. Pick one of these:
- CAMS (camsonline.com): request a CAS from the investor services section. Choose the consolidated statement that covers both CAMS and KFintech funds.
- KFintech (mfs.kfintech.com): request a CAS; it can also cover both registrars.
- MF Central (mfcentral.com): the platform run jointly by CAMS and KFintech, where you can request a CAS for all your folios.
Two choices matter:
- Detailed or summary. A detailed statement lists every transaction, which gives you accurate returns (XIRR) and cost. A summary lists only today's holdings, which is fine for a quick start.
- Password. You choose a password for the PDF when you request it. Note it down; you will need it in step 2.
The statement usually arrives by email within minutes.
Step 2: Upload it to Agni Folio
- Sign in to Agni Folio and open AI Import.
- Drop the CAS PDF into the upload box (up to 10 MB).
- CAS PDFs are password-protected. When Agni Folio asks for the password, type the one you chose when you requested the statement. For an NSDL or CDSL CAS, it is usually your PAN in capital letters (some statements add your date of birth as DDMMYYYY; the email that brought the statement says which).
- Wait while the statement is read. A long CAS can take a few minutes. You can leave the page; the import keeps running and you can reopen it from Import History.
What happens to the password? It is used only to open the file, in memory, while it is being read. It is never saved and never written to a log.
Prefer not to upload the PDF? Open the statement, copy its text, and paste it into the import box, or into the Astra chat. Agni Folio reads pasted text the same way.
Step 3: Review the folios, then confirm
Nothing is saved until you confirm. On the review screen:
- Each row is one folio of one fund, with the folio number shown under the fund name.
- You can edit any row. Fixing a name, a unit count or a date here is much easier than fixing it later.
- Pick the Target Account: the family member these funds belong to, for example Self or Spouse. Import your spouse's CAS into their own account, and the dashboard shows each person separately as well as the family total.
- Click Confirm & Import.
How Agni Folio matches your funds
A fund is identified by its ISIN plus its folio number, inside the account you chose. That has three practical effects:
- Several folios of one fund stay separate. Many investors hold the same fund in several folios, often after investing through different apps. Each folio keeps its own units and its own cost. Group the holdings table By Fund (ISIN) to see one line per fund, and expand it to see the folios.
- Importing again does not duplicate anything. Import the same statement twice, or next month's statement, and each folio updates the holding it created the first time.
- Holdings you added by hand are respected. If you already track a fund without a folio number, it is linked to the folio only when its units match the statement exactly. Otherwise the folio becomes a separate holding and the review screen tells you, so you can merge them yourself if they are the same.
"The statement is the truth": what happens when numbers differ
Say you held 100 units, redeemed 50 on the fund house's website and forgot to record it. Next month's CAS shows 50 units. When you import it:
| Statement vs Agni Folio | What happens |
|---|---|
| Statement shows more units | The holding is topped up to match |
| Same units | Nothing changes |
| Statement shows fewer units, and nothing newer is recorded on that holding | The holding is corrected down to the statement |
| Statement shows fewer units, but you recorded something after the statement date | Left alone, because the app knows about something the statement does not |
| Statement shows fewer units, and the holding has buys and sells you entered yourself | Left alone; add the missing redemption so your cost and gains stay right |
A correction is not a sale. Agni Folio does not invent a sale price or book a gain, and your average cost per unit stays the same. A folio that is missing from a newer statement is never deleted or set to zero, because it may have been redeemed, merged into another folio, or simply not covered by that statement.
After the import
- Automate your SIPs. Click Set up SIP from these after confirming, and future instalments are added for you at the fund's official NAV. STP and SWP plans work the same way.
- Check your returns. With a detailed CAS, Agni Folio calculates XIRR for each fund and for your whole portfolio, so SIP returns reflect when each instalment actually went in. See how XIRR works.
- See the whole picture. Your mutual funds sit next to your shares, FDs, property, gold, crypto, insurance and loans, in 20 base currencies, with a FIRE projection on top.
- Import again every month or quarter to keep units in line with the registrar.
Privacy: what you should know
- Agni Folio never asks for your CAMS, KFintech, MF Central, broker or email login. You bring the statement in yourself.
- The statement is read by an AI model to pull out the rows, so the details printed on it (name, PAN, folio numbers) are part of what the model reads. Premium uses paid AI models only, and has a Maximum privacy option that sends the statement only to providers that promise not to keep it or train on it.
- The PDF file itself is not kept after it is read. The text read from it is saved with the import so you can reopen it; remove the import from Import History to delete that record.
- The PDF password is never stored.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Agni Folio import a CAMS or KFintech CAS?
Yes. Upload the CAS PDF on the AI Import page and enter its password when asked. Agni Folio reads every folio, identifies each fund by ISIN and folio number, and shows the results for review before anything is saved.
What is the password for a CAS PDF?
For a CAMS or KFintech CAS, it is the password you chose when you requested the statement. For an NSDL or CDSL CAS, it is usually your PAN in capital letters (some statements add your date of birth as DDMMYYYY; the email that brought the statement says which). Agni Folio uses it only to open the file and never stores it.
Will importing my CAS every month create duplicate holdings?
No. Each folio is matched by ISIN and folio number, so a new statement updates the holdings created by the previous one. If the new statement shows fewer units and you have not recorded anything newer, the holding is corrected down to match.
I hold the same fund in several folios. How does that show up?
Each folio is its own holding with its own units and cost. Group the holdings table By Fund (ISIN) to see them combined into one line per fund.
Is CAS import free?
Yes, statement import is on the free plan. Premium uses stronger AI models that read long statements more reliably, and adds the Maximum privacy option.
Can I import my family's CAS too?
Yes. Create an account for each family member (for example Self, Spouse, Parents) and import each person's CAS into their own account. The dashboard shows each person and the combined family net worth.
Does Agni Folio calculate capital gains on my mutual funds?
Not yet. The Premium Capital Gains report covers Indian shares (short-term and long-term gains, the ₹1.25 lakh exemption and an estimated tax). Mutual fund gains are not part of it yet, though your fund returns (XIRR) and gains are shown on each holding.
